As a coach, I find so much joy in aligning with the seasons to foster a deeper connection with nature and myself. Winter, in particular, holds a unique magic—a time to embrace stillness, rest, and reflection. It’s this deep connection to seasonal living that inspires my work at, Grow with Solis.
Today, I'm excited to share with you the magic of Winter and how you can look after yourself and your wellbeing at this time.

The Solstice on the 21st December marks the start of winter. It's the longest night, and the shortest day, and it's a time to celebrate the return of the light. The days will get longer, on average 2 minutes per day, until we reach the Summer Solstice in June.
Embracing Seasonal Living
Each season offers its own rhythm, energy, and lessons, inspiring us to adapt and grow. Winter’s energy is deeply restorative, encouraging us to retreat, reflect, and nurture ourselves. The Seasonal Wheel of the Year provides moments for pause and celebration, reminding us of the beauty in life’s cycles.
Winter is a season of rest and restoration—a time to recharge and prepare for new beginnings. Its quieter, slower energy calls us to listen to our inner wisdom and reconnect with what truly matters.

Winter is a magical time of stillness, slowing down, comfort, restoring and conjuring up dreams and ideas for the year ahead
Winter is all about drawing back, allowing yourself to rest, renew, reflect and reconnect. This is the most introverted energy of the year. It's time to allow yourself a break, reflect on what's working and what's not, pausing and planting seeds for the next seasonal cycle.
Here are 10 things to focus on this Winter to boost your wellbeing and energy
1. Create cosy spaces
Embrace Hygge: Make your home a sanctuary with soft blankets, fluffy socks, fairy lights, and candles to bring warmth and comfort.
Winter Aromatherapy: Use essential oils like cedarwood, pine, peppermint, eucalyptus, lemon, geranium, bergamot, frankincense, cinnamon, or clove to evoke a cosy, warm and grounding atmosphere. Use in a diffuser, oil burner, on a tissue, on pulse points or in the bath. Use safe quantities and blend with a carrier oil where needed.
Warmth: Light a fire, keep a hot water bottle or a heated blanket nearby for chilly evenings.
Seasonal Decor: Bring the outside in with winter greenery (like pine boughs or eucalyptus, wreaths and pine cones). Use crystals that are good for winter including bloodstone, quartz, black tourmaline, selenite and citrine.
2. Nourish Your Body
Eat warm and comforting foods: Focus on warming, hearty food to build and conserve energy - think soups, stews, and porridge with seasonal root vegetables, whole grains, and warming spices like ginger, turmeric, cinnamon and cloves to boost circulation and combat colds.
Herbal teas and drinks: Sip on hot teas made from chamomile, peppermint, or chai spices. Try golden milk (turmeric latte) for an immune-boosting treat.
Hydrate: Even though it’s cold, don’t forget to hydrate. Warm water with lemon or herbal teas are nice at this time of year - chamomile, lemon balm, citrus, hibiscus, echinacea and rosehips, chai latte and turmeric latte.
Seasonal Eating: Incorporate winter foods like bone broth, sweet potatoes, root veg, squash, dark leafy greens, leek, squash, seaweed, cranberries, pears, apples and citrus fruits to support your immune system. Eat Vitamin D rich foods like oily fish oranges, eggs and mushrooms.

3. Winter Skincare
Boost Hydration: Use a richer moisturiser to combat dryness from cold air and indoor heating. Look for ingredients like rose, Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid.
Lip and Hand Care: Keep your lips soft with nourishing balms and protect your hands with a rich hand cream.
Bath Rituals: Indulge in warm baths with Epsom salts and a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus oil to soothe muscles and relax. Bath salts can also be a good exfoliator.
Hot cloth: Use a warm flannel over your face to help your products sink in and gently exfoliate dead skin cells.
4. Rest and Restore
Prioritise Sleep: Winter is a time to restore your energy. We need more sleep in Yin seasons (autumn and winter). Aim for 7–9 hours of restful sleep each night. Take a look at my sleep blog for more on improving your sleep.
Quiet Evenings: Reclaim your evenings with calming rituals - think herbal teas, good books, journaling, light yoga and early nights.
Rest: Allow yourself periods of rest and resist the urge to always be productive and 'doing'. The festive season can be a good time for social connections, but it's important to conserve energy after expending it.
5. Connect with Nature
Bundle Up for Walks: Enjoy brisk walks in nature to soak in the beauty of winter and get fresh air. Pay attention to the stillness and calm of the season.
Natural Sunlight: sunlight is vital to our bodies being able to function and for our sleep and wake cycles. It sets your circadian rhythm which is important for sleep.
Appreciate the season: there are things you only see in winter, like the sun and the moon in the sky at the same time, later sunrises, getting cosy after a crisp walk. stargazing on clear nights, the crisp air often makes stars appear brighter.
6. Gentle Movement
Yoga and Stretching: Gentle yoga or yin yoga can help you stay active while focusing on mindfulness and breathing.
Winter Walks: A short, refreshing walk can improve circulation and mood.
At-Home Workouts: Explore indoor activities like pilates, tai chi, qi gong or dance videos to keep moving indoors.
If you're low on motivation, don't wait until you feel motivated, do 5 minutes and see how you feel.
7. Emotional and Mental Wellbeing
Journaling: Reflect on the past year and set intentions for the next. Winter is a great time for introspection. Take a look at my 14 day Self-Connection Journal if you'd like some inspiration.
Meditation: Practice mindfulness meditation to stay grounded and connected during the darker months.
Gratitude Practice: Write down three things you’re grateful for each day to foster positivity.
8. Indulge in Winter Crafts or Hobbies
Creative Expression: Try knitting, crocheting, or painting. Winter is an ideal time for slow, creative activities.
Seasonal Baking: Bake comforting winter treats like spiced cookies, gingerbread, or a hearty loaf of bread.
Do what Brings you Joy: prioritise yourself, take yourself on a date, do nice things for yourself, be kind and compassionate
9. Social Connection
Cosy Gatherings: Winter is a time for togetherness. Gather with loved ones or friends, play games, share meals by the fire, cosy up with hot chocolate or mulled wine and warm blankets.
Digital Detox: Take breaks from screens to spend meaningful time with family and friends.
Check In: Winter can feel isolating, so make an effort to check in with loved ones, whether it’s a phone call, video chat, or an in-person visit.
10. Practice Intentional Rest
Winter Reflection: Use the season to reflect on your goals, priorities, and personal growth.
Slow Mornings: Start your day with intention. Enjoy a slow cup of tea or meditate before diving into your day.
Say No: Winter is a time to conserve energy. Don’t feel guilty about declining invitations or setting boundaries to protect your rest.
